The Committee on Information Technology is excited to be sponsoring two sessions at the 2017 Convention in Philadelphia. One panel is “Histories of Digital Labor,” with CIT member Shawna Ross presiding, which will take place on Saturday, January 7, at 5:15 PM, in Franklin 5, Philadelphia Marriott. The other is “Going Public: Tools for Developing Your Digital Identity,” with CIT members Patricia Hswe and Daniel Powell co-presiding. It is scheduled for Friday, January 6, at 12:00 noon, in Grand Ballroom Salon B, Philadelphia Marriott. “Going Public” is an interactive session that will feature modules addressing different yet interrelated ways of cultivating one’s digital identity. Attendees will find out about various tools openly available for building your online scholarly presence; tips for how to get started, including demonstrations and walk-throughs to demystify these processes; and resources to consult for further guidance and support. The topics to be covered include the following:
- Navigating Open Access (Patricia Hswe)
- Using Humanities Commons (Nicky Agate)
- Building an elevator pitch for your project (Daniel Powell)
- Curating a social media presence (Lee Skallerup Bessette)
- A domain of one’s own (Zach Whalen)
